Dr. Binkerd is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Binkerd began his college education at the University of Montevallo at the age of 12 then later graduated from Shelby County High School at the age of 15, class of 1984. After completing his undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama- Birmingham, cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, he was accepted as a Rural Medical Scholar and received his Master’s in Health from the University of Alabama.
He continued his medical education and graduated from The University of Alabama- Birmingham School of Medicine. Dr. Binkerd continued his training and completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of South Alabama, where he was the Inaugural Pediatric Surgery Resident of the year and appointed the Administrative Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Binkerd has extensive training in laparoscopic, breast, endocrine and vascular surgery with additional training in critical care, burns, wounds and plastics.
