Emergency Department (ED) Medical Scribe (ED Scribe)

The ED scribe assists ED physicians with various administrative aspects of patient care in the ED. These administrative aspects include assisting with recording the EM physician medical record documentation (electronic or paper) of patient history, review of systems, physical exam findings, progress notes, procedure notes, follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results. The ED scribe will assist physicians in managing patient flow by notifying them when the results of laboratory or diagnostic studies are available.

Monitor charts to ensure timely completion including history, physical exam, review of systems, labs, diagnostic studies, ECGs, initial assessment and plan, progress notes, procedure notes, impression/diagnosis, discharge plan with disposition, and signatures. Send incomplete charts back to the appropriate physician(s) as needed.

Under the direction of ED physicians: Assist in recording the documentation of patient admission, transfer, or discharge plan and follow-up. Navigate electronic records to retrieve previous medical records, prior labs results, etc.

Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of medical office systems and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Excellent typing skills with the ability to transcribe information quickly and accurately.
  • Familiarity with medical documentation practices and standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments such as the ER.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals.

  • 8am to 6pm
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Thursday
  • Weekends as needed
