Position Overview: Performs ultrasound for diagnostic purposes. Follows established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare patients for ultrasound exams. Escort patients to ultrasound room, provide verbal and/or written instructions. Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety and comfort during exam
- Operate ultrasound equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
- Follow all ultrasound protocols for exam images.
- Ensure ultrasound equipment remains in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Perform related administrative duties including completing necessary forms.
- Retrieve ultrasound orders and inputs data into hospital and radiology systems.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Work as a team member within the radiology department and all other departments.
- Assist other sonographers with all exams.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to work with patients of all ages (infant to geriatric).
- Current enrollment in an accredited ultrasound program.
- Passed the SPI with ARDMS
- Pending national registration with the ARDMS.
- CPR certification.
- Willing to learn vascular protocols.
- Knowledge of anatomy and ultrasound protocols.
- Upon graduation and ARDMS certification must work a minimum of PRN status for a minimum six (6) months from graduation date
- Each exam performed must be signed off by a registered sonographer before submission to radiologist.
Working Conditions:
- Scheduled days may vary from Monday-Friday.
- Frequently exposed to noise and regular flow of hospital patients.
- Subject to stress, frustration and fatigue.
- May be subject to verbal abuse by patients and family members.
- Work is of medium physical demand, requiring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and walking. Frequent moving and lifting of patients is required.
