ER Registration Clerk-Lake Martin Community Hospital. (FT Night Shift)

Lake Martin Community Hospital is looking for a full time Night Shift ER registration clerk. Hours are 6a-6p.

Pay range is $12-$15/hr depending on experience

Shift Diff is included in any night shift worked.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Registers all E.R. and outpatients during assigned hours.
  • Ensures that charges for non-emergency elective outpatient services are collected prior to the hospital providing services; (subject to the few exceptions noted in the hospital’s outpatient policy).
  • Reviews all registration forms for E.R. and outpatients who are registered by others for accuracy and completeness and obtains and/or corrects such information as required.
  • Determines charges for all E.R. patients and requests payment at the time of discharge.
  • Explains hospital financial policies to all outpatients prior to registration (emergencies excepted).
  • Explains HIPAA and Confidentiality to all outpatients prior to registration.
  • Maintains E.R. and outpatient logs in accordance with state requirements.
  • Handles the PBX system after 4:30pm each week day (Monday through Friday) and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Routinely accepts payments on patient accounts when the Business Office is closed and takes responsibility for turning in these monies/receipts to the cashier on her next scheduled shift.
  • Assists nursing staff and medical staff when needed.
  • Assists patient relatives and friends in emergency situations.
  • Has a thorough working knowledge of the registration department including all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains tact and courtesy in dealing with patients/visitors and physicians.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Preserves the confidential nature of items of which he/she has knowledge.
  • Maintains confidentiality in regards to patient information and hospital affairs.
  • May be required to extend duty hours when an emergency arises.
  • Represents a caring, friendly and professional attitude to the patient/family or public that he/she has contact with.
  • Exercises patience, tact, a pleasant disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.
  • Follows established hospital policies and infection control program.
  • Assumes responsibility for self-improvement by attendance at in-service classes, staff meetings and education related to personal growth and departmental needs.
  • Performs such other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Registration Coordinator/Administrator.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to communicate and understand medical terminology and to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.

· Displays a willing, cooperative attitude at all times.

· Interpersonal skills required to instruct patients and their families, as well as, professional interaction with a variety of hospital personnel.

· Ability to walk and stand frequently.

· Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster plans and infection control policies.

· Knowledge of patient rights.
