Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical coding and billing processes, as well as familiarity with medical terminology and records. This role is essential in ensuring accurate coding for patient records, which is critical for healthcare reimbursement and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures.
- Assign appropriate codes using ICD-9, DRG, and other coding systems.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation.
- Process medical billing claims and follow up on outstanding collections.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and standards related to medical coding.
- Assist in the training of new staff on coding practices and procedures.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical coding, including familiarity with ICD-9 codes and DRG systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and the ability to interpret complex medical records.
- Experience with medical billing processes and collections is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
