Position Overview: The technician is capable of performing exams requiring the use of independent judgement and responsibility. Tests performed must only be those that the technician is qualified to perform based on education, training and experience under the supervision of appropriate level Supervisor.
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Knowledge of practice of Radiological Technology preferred.
3. Knowledge of x-ray procedures and special procedures or ability to learn.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s requisition/order, for consistency of exam ordered, with clinical diagnosis and demographic information. If necessary, records pertinent data on radiographic requisitions at all times.
- Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper use of support devises, and uses proper body mechanics. Transfers patients as required. Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images, and ensures proper film identification on all images.
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to appropriate staff, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
- Whether in the inpatient, outpatient or ED setting coordinates radiographic examination to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care and assists with the management of the workflow of the department to ensure the timely completion of work assignments in the absence of the radiology supervisor. Explains procedures and answers patient questions about procedures in a manner to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform all necessary computer operations to ensure proper examination documentation and charges. Uses computer system in documenting patient information correctly and accurately to ensure the quality of patient care.
- Contributes to the efficient operation of the department. Performs quality assurance measures as required.
- Maintains tact and courtesy in dealing with patients/visitors and physicians.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Departments, staff, employees and the public.
- Preserves the confidential nature of items of which he/she has knowledge.
- Reports all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other employees.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor when stock is low. Keeps works area and department neat and orderly.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new radiology/x-ray employees.
- Willingly accepts assigned tasks whether or not related directly to patient care and takes the initiative to do tasks unassigned to improve or maintain department operations.
- Has the ability to operate darkroom equipment and CR equipment and processing.
- Pursues ongoing continuing education as required by the ARRT.
- Able to be on-call if necessary.
- Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness per company policy as stated in the handbook.
- Adheres to scheduled work hours according to existing policy.
- Demonstrates proper response and reliability for “on call” coverage.
- Knows the location of fire extinguishers and how to use them.
- Familiar with the safety and disaster plan.
- Maintains employee education and health on a yearly basis, including up to date CPR certification.
- Familiar with the knowledge of the Employee Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- May be required to extend duty hours when an emergency arises.
- Works closely with the registration department, business office, medical records and Case Management on patient registration.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Radiology Director/Administrator.
- Represents a caring, friendly and professional attitude to the patient/family or public that he/she has contact with.
- Follows established hospital policies and infection control program.
- Assumes responsibility for self-improvement by attendance at in-service classes, staff meetings and education related to personal growth and departmental needs.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate and understand medical terminology and to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
- Interpersonal skills required to instruct patients and their families, as well as, professional interaction with a variety of hospital personnel.
- Ability to walk and stand frequently.
- Must have the ability to make independent decisions when warranted.
- Must have the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors and other professional as well as nonprofessional individuals.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster plans and infection control policies.
- Knowledge of patient rights.
