Position Summary:
Provides and documents individualized patient care to include patient and personal safety, patient assessments in collaboration with the supervising RN or RT, patient re-assessments, triage, maintaining airway patency, IV access and hang IV fluids without additives, ECG interpretations, dysrhythmias recognition, places patients on defined oxygen delivering devices and assists with the application of skeletal traction/splints/immobilizers and other orthopedic equipment under the supervision of a Licensed Physician.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Delivers patient care requiring advanced skills and judgment in the Emergency Department, as directed by the appropriate Medical Director for specialty to include protocol orders or guidelines within approved current Paramedic competency.
- The competency will not exceed the educational guidelines for a paramedic in the State of Alabama.
- The Alabama paramedic practice model includes invasive and pharmacologic interventions intended to reduce morbidity and mortality in the pre-hospital environment.
- It is expected that in the hospital setting where medical care and resources are readily available, this practice model will be modified.
- Provides for the physical comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and members of the health care team including infection control and appropriate handling of hazardous materials.
- Prioritizes and sequences work activities and delivery of medical care to patients that ensures the patient’s comfort, safety, and progress toward established goals.
- Administers limited medications safely within the defined education guidelines and competencies.
- Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively supporting timely admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Elmore Community Hospital policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
Successfully completed a Paramedic program.
Licensure/Certification
- Current certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Alabama renewed every 2 years; and
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification for healthcare providers; and
- Maintains current ACLS certification; and
- If appropriate, obtain and maintain PALS certification within one year of hire
